Talk to Me: Filmmaker Charlie Kaufman
By WNYC Culture
Mon, Nov 16, 2009
This is an audio recording from the Rubin Museum’s “Red Book Dialogues”, where Jung’s Red Book was first presented. Charlie Kaufmann is a screenwriter, director and producer. His movies have included Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind..
John Beebe is a Jungian Analyst with a long-term interest in discussing Jung and film. He provides excellent historical and articulate information about Jung throughout the audio.
Although I had seen Kaufman’s films, I wasn’t aware of his role in all of these films. Clearly a sensitive, thoughtful, more-than-intelligent man.
Kaufman is self-revealing in this interview, talking about his repeating anxiety of running over someone in car “and the nightmare of affecting someone’s life”. Beebe responds by talking about the worst anxiety of all, “the fear of the irrevocable.”
