Jacob and the Ladder, Jack and the Beanstalk

The beanstalk grew up quite close past Jack’s window, so all he had to do was to open it and give a jump onto the beanstalk which ran up just like a big ladder. So Jack climbed, and he climbed, and he climbed, and he climbed, and he climbed, and he climbed, and he climbed till at last he reached the sky.

Somewhat similar to the dream of Jacob’s ladder, there is beanstalk ladder that extends into the heavens…. By going up the ladder, Jack obtains gold (although he has to deal with a giant ogre who is protecting the treasures.)….
At the end of the fairy tale he has to chop the beanstalk down to escape the ogre…. Unlike Jacob, he doesn’t find a ladder that provides permanent access to the riches of connection with the spiritual world…. Jack’s a bit young, after all…. Maybe when he is older he can climb a giant tree rather than a temporary beanstalk….
