Andre Gregory and Analyst Sylvester Wotjkowski in The Red Book Dialogues

from The Red Book W.W. Norton 2009

Andre Gregory
was the lead actor in My Dinner with Andre.. Although clearly articulate, fearless about talking about himself and has a sense of humor, it takes twelve minutes before Gregory starts talking about the picture:

A very old shaman…a man in disguise… death in the eyes, pollution in the face, as if he has a terrible disease…there is something rather frightening… A goat that will lead me into the land of the dead… a goat king…

This image clearly evokes Shadow material for Mr. Gregory, and analyst Wotjkowski also associates to it. An interesting presentation, but minimally about Jung.

These are photos from this particular presentation of the Red Book Dialogues that capture the flavor of the event.

  1. I have seen images, though ‘non-anthropmorphic’, but with the same terror beyond terrors. I can understand why this guy finds it difficult to talk about. This darkness is so aweful there is nothing much you can say about it, too difficult to describe or even make images of, though I try. It isn’t even depression, I have experienced that too and it still has something human about it, something one can relate to …..this really is different. Unfortunately, to truly know the ‘light’ I think one must look into and know this darkness…..
